Profile Description

At the very tip of the Istrian Peninsula, right next to the village of Premantura, lies the Rt Kamenjak Nature Park—one of the few corners of the Adriatic that has managed to preserve its pristine wildness. There are no concrete beaches or tourist complexes here, just bare limestone cliffs shaped by the wind and sea, and the endless blue of the Adriatic. There is an entrance fee to the park, but every euro is worth the investment.

The park is a paradise for cyclists and hikers—a network of gravel paths winds through pine trees and low Mediterranean vegetation to a variety of coves and headlands, each hiding its own beach and an ideal spot for swimming. A special natural attraction are the dinosaur tracks preserved in the stone slabs along the coast—they delight children and turn swimming into a real paleo-adventure. The water here is exceptionally clean and clear, and the seabed is teeming with colorful fish that come very close.

A must-visit on any trip to Kamenjak is the legendary Safari Bar, built into the rocky coast and accessible only by sea or via a narrow path. With loungers, cold drinks, and music, it creates an atmosphere everyone will be talking about. The park also features nudist beaches, perfect for those seeking complete relaxation. For those with children, it is recommended to choose the western or eastern shores—the waters there are calmer and swimming is safer.

Head to Cape Kamenjak early in the morning, especially in July and August, when the parking lots at the entrance fill up quickly. Bring plenty of food and drinks, as there aren’t many shops in the park. Cyclists will be happy to know there are bike rentals in Premantura. Premantura is a good two-hour drive from Koper, but once you lay eyes on this wild landscape, you’ll know the trip was worth it.
