Vogar – viewpoint above Lake Bohinj

Vogar razgled nad Bohinjskim jezerom
Vogar – viewpoint above Lake Bohinj is an interesting trip idea. This page includes a short description, location, photos and basic visit information.
Vogar – a viewpoint overlooking Lake Bohinj Vogar is one of the most beautiful and most frequently photographed viewpoints in Slovenia. It lies at an elevation of 1,054 meters above sea level, on the slope of Mount Vogar, just above Lake Bohinj.

Vogar is one of the most visited day-trip spots above Lake Bohinj, mainly because it offers quick access, a mountain hut, and rewarding views after a climb of about one hour from Stara Fužina. At 1,054 metres above sea level, it sits on the eastern part of the ridge above the lake’s northern shore and works well as a short standalone outing or as a starting point for longer hikes.

Views and setting

According to the official Bohinj destination site, Vogar opens wide views of the Upper and Lower Bohinj Valley, the lake basin, and the peaks of the Bohinj-Tolmin mountains. There are two viewpoints on Vogar: the first is in a clearing and can be reached in less than an hour, while the second is about 20 more minutes on past Kosijev dom, along a well-worn path near the steep edge. From there, you can see Lake Bohinj, Ukanc, and the mountain arc from Vogel to Komna.

What to expect

The trail starts in Stara Fužina and gains almost 500 metres in elevation, so sturdy footwear is recommended. At the top, Kosijev dom offers refreshments, a stamp, and a registration book according to the official description. The area is also a popular paragliding base, so visitors may see take-offs in the meadow near the first viewpoint.

Why go

Vogar is a good choice if you want an iconic Bohinj panorama without committing to a long mountain day. It can be enjoyed as a relaxed hike, a photo stop, or the beginning of a bigger plan for exploring the trails above Lake Bohinj.
