Zagreb Zoo

The Zagreb Zoo is located almost in the city center, within the over 200-year-old Maksimir Park. It is an extremely popular place for relaxation and recreation. Here, visitors can see many species of animals, ranging from mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, and fish to invertebrates, from nearly every continent.

The zoo participates in numerous programs for the protection of endangered species and offers visitors various educational programs, organizes events, and provides a wealth of information about animals and nature. Area: 7 ha (including the lake and 5.5 hectares of land).

The Zagreb Zoo is not enclosed by high fences and walls but is divided into segments, such as the Tropical House, Madagascar—home to the lemur island—Australia, where kangaroos hop, the African Village, where antelopes graze, all the way to the children’s zoo for the youngest visitors. The beautiful Maksimir Park, with plenty of shade, is the icing on the cake.
