Ptuj Castle

Ptuj Castle is one of the city’s defining sights and a strong choice for a day trip if you want history, museum rooms and a great view over Ptuj. Why go

The visit stands out for its furnished castle rooms, armoury, Gothic and Baroque art gallery, glass-painting collection, traditional carnival masks and Slovenia’s largest collection of historical musical instruments. One of the most notable objects is the ancient tibia flute. From the castle, you get a very photogenic view over the tiled roofs and cobbled streets below. When to plan it

Plan about 1.5 to 3 hours if you want time for several collections and the viewpoint. From 15 April to 15 October, the museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00, and in July and August it is also open on Mondays from 10:00 to 18:00. Practical tips

By car, access to the lower castle courtyard is possible, and ramps are available, but there is no lift. Small dogs carried in arms are allowed; larger dogs should be left outside. Toilets are available, including a changing table, and some collections can be visited with a stroller, with storage available for pushchairs.
