The Matkov Kot and Matkov Škaf Hiking Trail

You can reach Matkov kot from the viewpoint near the Matk homestead and tourist farm, located at an elevation of 1,165 meters in the small, secluded valley of Matkov kot.

From there, an easy hiking trail leads you to Matkov kot and then on to a more challenging trail to the natural landmark Matkov škaf (crampons and an ice axe are recommended, even in summer), a unique natural feature at an altitude of 1,480 m. It is a crater-like snow basin where, in the spring, water falls in a gentle cascade into a thick snowfield that is filled by avalanches in the winter, carving a bucket-shaped hole in the snow.

This peaceful valley was named after the (former) Matk farm on its slope. There are four mountain farms in Matkov kot. This means there are several options for a culinary stop.
