Lake Petelinjsko

Profile Description

Lake Palš is the second largest in the Pivka Lakes group, and water remains in it the longest—up to six months each year. It is full in the spring from April until the start of the dry season, and sometimes even in the fall; at its highest water level, it is 5–7 m deep at its deepest point and covers an area of 55 ha. Due to its seasonal drying and the fact that it is not directly connected to other bodies of water, there are no fish in the lake. However, the 5-millimeter-long crayfish deserves the most attention, as Lake Petelinjsko is the only place in the world where it can still be found.
