Ledine Intermittent Lake is a natural attraction below the village of Rateče, at the entrance to the Planica Valley. According to the official description, the small lake fills with water during heavy rain in spring or autumn, while in summer it dries out. That means the landscape changes a lot from one visit to another: sometimes you see water, sometimes a meadow that local farmers mow for bedding.
Ledine is notable for bifurcation, the watershed divide between the Sava and Drava river basins. When enough water collects in the depression, it overflows across that divide. The official source also says the lake often freezes in winter, so it may sometimes be used for skating, but on-site conditions should always be checked first.
Ledine works well as a short stop or as part of a walk from Rateče toward Planica. The Municipality of Kranjska Gora also mentions it along a walking route and in the list of parking areas in Rateče. Because this is a natural feature, the best time to visit depends on weather and season. If you want to see actual water, plan your visit after heavier rain. If you prefer a quiet walk, the area is still pleasant when dry.
This is a wetland and a sensitive natural area, so stay on existing paths and respect private land and local rules. For access conditions, winter status, parking details, or any restrictions, check the official source before you go.
