Babji Zob – 1,128 m

Babji Zob is a distinctive viewpoint on the northwestern edge of the Jelovica plateau above Kupljenik. Its sharp rock formation and position above the Sava Bohinjka valley make it an appealing half-day outing for visitors who want a short but rewarding mountain trip.

How the hike works

The trail starts in the village of Kupljenik, near St. Stephen’s Church. From there it crosses a meadow and climbs uphill to a fork, then continues to the summit on a marked path. There are no mountain huts on the route, so bring water and snacks. According to the local tourism source, the full outing from Kupljenik takes about three hours, and you return the same way.

Views and an optional add-on

From the top, you get views toward Bohinj, Bled, the Julian Alps and the Karawanks. If you combine the hike with a visit to the cave under Babji Zob, plan for much more time. The local site notes that guided cave visits are handled by speleologists from Bled.

Who it suits

The ascent is not especially demanding, but it does require proper hiking shoes and a basic level of fitness. Some sections are more exposed, so this is a better choice for adults and for children who are used to mountain walking.
