Zelenci Nature Reserve

Zelenci Nature Reserve is an interesting trip idea. This page includes a short description, location, photos and basic visit information.

Zelenci is one of the best-known nature spots near Kranjska Gora: an emerald-green pool, a marsh, and the source of the Sava Dolinka just past the village of Podkoren. It is a short, scenic stop where you experience nature along a maintained path and wooden boardwalk, with very little effort.

Why go

The reserve lies on the northern edge of Triglav National Park, framed by Vitranc and the Karawanks. Its key features are the clear, cold springs and the distinctive blue-green water. The surrounding wetland supports varied plant life, including sundews, as well as amphibians and nesting birds.

What to expect

A maintained forest path leads to the pool, and a wooden boardwalk lets you walk through the marshy area without damaging the habitat. A viewing tower beside the spring offers a higher view of Zelenci and a wider outlook toward the Ponce peaks. Because the route is short and easy, this is a good family stop and an ideal outing when you only have about an hour.

Good to know

Zelenci is a sensitive natural environment, so stay on marked trails. Drones are not allowed in the natural environment without prior permission from the park. In winter, the water does not freeze, so the site remains attractive in the colder months too.

For current access conditions, any seasonal restrictions, and path status, always check the official destination or park website.
