Outdoor Museum Vodice is a First World War heritage site on the Banjška Plateau. A marked circular route leads past preserved caverns, trenches and other battlefield remains. On the summit you will also find the mausoleum of General Maurizio Ferrante Gonzaga and a monument to the three alpini battalions that captured the north-western part of Vodice on 18 May 1917.
The site is especially appealing for its multi-storey cave, preserved trench system and wide views toward Mt. Sveta Gora, Mt. Sabotin and, in clear weather, the Adriatic. It belongs to the Walk of Peace heritage trail, so the visit works best as a historical walk in nature rather than a museum stop in a building.
According to the official description, the area can be reached from the direction of Plave or from Sveta Gora. A walking approach is also suggested from the parking area below Sveta Gora, with a route toward the pass between Sveta Gora and Vodice. Trekking shoes, poles, water, food from a backpack and a flashlight are recommended.
