Profile Description

In the courtyard of the Kišek farm in Močilno stands the record-holder among Slovenian chestnut trees—the thickest native chestnut tree in Slovenia. Its extraordinary dimensions amaze every visitor. It stands 18 meters tall, with a trunk circumference at chest height of 10.93 meters and a volume of 36 cubic meters. The tree’s crown consists of four peaks, and the dry central peak serves as a nesting site for owls. After three centuries, the chestnut tree still bears abundant fruit every year, and its nuts are used to make excellent marmalade. Gašper’s Chestnut Tree is considered a natural landmark.
