Mozirski Gaj – Flower Park

Profile Description

Mozirski Gaj is a park in Mozirje that was created by Slovenian gardeners and local residents in the 1980s. It was developed from an overgrown town common that had been used as an illegal dumping ground. In this way, they transformed the defiled natural area into a flower park.

It lies on the right bank of the Savinja River, covers an area of 7 hectares, and is open from mid-April to the end of September. During the 2016/2017 season, they also opened Slovenia’s Christmas Fairy Tale in December and decorated the park with as many as 500,000 decorative lights. During this time, flower exhibitions are held, and themed gardens are arranged, such as a collection of aromatic plants and medicinal herbs; ethnographic structures add to the charm.

Flower Park

  • The Mozirski Gaj tulip—Tulip No. 9589-185-4 (now named Mozirski Gaj)—was developed in 1995 and is the result of the work of breeder Mr. Mellem.
It is a special garden tulip due to its rare color and long-lasting blooms. The Mozirski Gaj tulip is not suitable for forcing and is therefore best suited for planting in flower beds.

  • Trees and Shrubs
