Profile Description

The hut stands above the edge of the steep southern slope of Dobrča at a place called Kres, where bonfires were reportedly lit during the Turkish invasions. The first hut was built after World War I by four private individuals; in 1952, it was taken over by the Tržič Mountaineering Club and named after Ladislav Kostanjevec (1906–1937), a mountaineer from Tržič who was buried by an avalanche beneath Storžič. A fire completely destroyed the hut on September 16, 1974. In 1975, construction of a new hut began on the site of the ruins; it opened on June 10, 1978, and has since been known as the Dobrča Hut. In 2012, the Dobrča Hut was selected by visitors as the most popular mountain hut in a joint campaign by the Alpine Association of Slovenia and the newspaper Nedelo. View: The hut offers exceptional views in all directions except to the north. To the east, one first sees Kriška Gora and Storžič, followed by the peaks of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps; to the southeast rises the Posavje Hills, in front of which lies the vast Ljubljana Basin, beyond which the Notranjska Hills extend to Snežnik and the Javorniki; to the south, at the foot of Dobrča, lies the Podgora Plateau between Tržič and Begunje with its picturesque villages, beyond which the Gorenjska Plain stretches from Šmarna Gora to Jesenice, including Kranj, Radovljica, Bled, and other towns; the Gorenjska Plain is bordered by the Polhov Gradec Hills, the Škofja Loka Mountains, Jelovica, and Pokljuka; to the south, we can see Lubnik, Blegoš, Porezen, and Ratitovec; To the west, beyond Jelovica and Pokljuka, lies a sweeping panorama of the Julian Alps, including Triglav; the view to the north is obscured by the peak of Dobrča; if we climb to the summit, a beautiful view opens up of the Karawanks, including Begunjščica and Stol, the valley toward Ljubelj, and Košuta. koca_na_dobrci_1 Trails to other mountain huts – Roblek Hut on Begunjščica (1,657 m), via Preval and along the southern slope of Begunjščica, 3.30 hrs (Easy trail)
