Profile Description

The mountain hut stands on the panoramic hill of Hom overlooking the Savinja Valley, next to the Church of St. Magdalene, which dates back to the second half of the 14th century.

The Zabukovica Mountaineering Club established a mountain hut in the former sexton’s house, which they thoroughly renovated, and the hut was opened on September 17, 1967. It is named after Drago Ocvirk (1891–1976), one of the oldest and most dedicated members of the Zabukovica Mountaineering Association at the time, who consistently supported the construction of the lodge and performed a tremendous amount of volunteer work during the renovation of the sexton’s house. The land surrounding the lodge was donated to the PD by Karel Petek-Mežnar.

In 1970, a veranda and a basement were added, and in 1972, a road was built to the base of the peak. Then an extension was built and all the rooms were renovated. The expanded lodge was opened on July 24, 1977. In 1979, a telephone line was installed with the help of the territorial defense. The four dining areas have 100 seats and a bar counter; there are 50 seats at the tables in front of the lodge; the four rooms have 12 beds, and the two shared dormitories have 21 beds; Toilet, washroom with cold water; central heating, running water, electricity, telephone.
