Profile Description

You can set out on a beautiful hike to Čemšeniška Planina, a protected area renowned for its natural beauty and unique features. The mountain is adorned with endless views of carpets of wild garlic.

The Dr. Franc Golob Mountain Hut stands below the summit of Čemšeniška or Velika Planina. There are 60 seats in two dining areas, a bar counter; 50 seats at tables in front of the hut; 16 beds in 4 rooms, and 16 beds in a shared dormitory; restroom, washroom; the dining areas are heated by stoves; running water, electricity, telephone, and a freight cable car.

View:
To the east, we can see Javor, Sveto Planina, Mrzlica, Gore, Kopitnik, and Veliko Kozje; to the southeast is Kum, beyond which the Gorjanci range lies on the horizon, and to the south and southwest are Kočevski Rog, Snežnik, and Nanos; to the west, we can see part of the Julian Alps in the distance, though the view of the main part is obscured by the forested ridge of the mountain. Below the slope on the southeastern side, we can see the valley along the Kotredeščica stream; to the south, a section of the Medija Valley and part of Izlak, with Zasavska Sveta Gora in the background. On the southern slope of Čemšeniška Planina are several villages, including Čemšenik, after which the mountain is named. On the way from Vransko or Trojane, the view often opens up to the northwest toward Raduho, Menina Planina, the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, and part of the Julian Alps; to the north, the view extends across the Savinja Valley to Gora Oljka, Paški Kozjak, and Pohorje.
