Profile Description

Vremščica is a ridge that stretches from Divača to Pivka between the Postojna Plain and the Reka Valley. Its highest peak (Velika Vremščica, Vrbanov vrh, or Gora sv. Urbana) is one of the last peaks over 1,000 meters on the Slovenian Mountain Transversal toward the sea. If you head there via the western or eastern ridge, you’ll find a gentle, welcoming mountain; from the south, however, steep karst meadows await you. Those who seek tranquility in nature (fortunately, there are no mountain huts for miles around), pleasant walks, and beautiful views stretching from Nanos in the north to Slavnik and Snežnik in the south most often head to Vremščica. Flower lovers will especially enjoy a trip to Vremščica, as flowers abound there—in May, you’re sure to find daffodils, anemones, and irises. The ridge trail from Senožeče takes about 3 hours and is an easy, well-marked path. Ideal for a more challenging hike with children. The route along the southern slope from Gornje Ležeče takes about 2 hours; it is marked but quite steep in the upper section.
